Get Crazy With A Golf Shot Attempt From The Water
October 12, 2007 | under Golf Tips |
I am going to try something wacky this week. Don’t you just love it when your ball lands on the edge of a small pond or creek? Well, maybe not, but such a situation is actually a mixed blessing.
Part of you is happy that you can still locate the ball, without it being sunk and taking a penalty, but on the other hand, playing the ball while half emerged in water can be a crazy (and wet) shot.
There is nothing wrong with getting a little wacky on the course, losing all your senses, and splish-splashing your way to a successful shot from the water! If you do have a chance shot with a ball that is showing enough of itself above the water line to make contact, then the following 3 tips will help:
1. Open up your stance and keep the ball in the middle. Only do so if you can avoid sinking your feet into deeper water.
2. Take a steep swing back and hit the ball as clean as possible. This shot should have a steep approach from the backswing to the ball contact. Remember, this is not a bunker shot and so you do not want to hit the ball with a lot of water in between it and the clubface.
3. Do your best to follow through, although difficult in these situations, and simply hope for the best!
Well, I know this shot is a wacky shot and not really recommended. No harm going crazy once in a while…. ![]()
