Simple Practice to Improve Backswing
September 29, 2007 | under Beginners, Golf Tips, Golf Swing |
One of the most common swing errors that occurs is when golfers take their club too far inside of the target on the backswing. This move is typically caused by having a backswing that is controlled more so by the hips and the dipping of shoulders away from the golf ball.
This move leads to many bad shots, including duck hooks, topped shots, and slices depending on the position of the clubface at impact.
To fix the problem, there is a simple practice technique that you can use by balancing yourself against a wall. Simply situate your body with the wall behind you and take your address position while your backside is touching the wall.
Now simulate your backswing (in slow motion) until your arms are reaching waste time.
Note: If you find that your club is touching the wall, this means that you are moving too far toward the inside.
By practicing the above drill with a wall, you will correct your backswing path as well as correct a problem that you may have, which called “laying offâ€. This term describes a golfer that drops the clubhead behind the body during the backswing, due to having weak wrists.
