Tiger Woods Won His 13th Major
August 13, 2007 | under PGA Tour, Ernie Els, Tiger Woods |
Tiger Woods has just acquired his 13th Major Championship today at the 2007 PGA Championship. Tiger, who has been “majorless” this year, won his major to continue his “at least one major a year” streak for the last 3 years. Also, his first major win since becoming a father.
Tiger is now 5 majors away from Jack Nicklaus record of 18 professional majors. Nicklaus attained his 13th major at the age of 35. Tiger is slightly ahead when he won today at the age of 31.
As usual, the 2007 PGA Championship proves to be another exciting golf tournament. After the first round, most of the notables are not really in the top of the leaderboard. For your information, Tiger was 6 behind the leader after the first round.
The second round was totally different for Woods. He shot a low score of 63 for the round, tieing the course record set in 1982. On the 18th hole, he had a birdie putt - a chance to break the course record with a score of 62. His birdie “horseshoed” the hole and have to settle for par.
On the final day today, not many players played below par. There was a challenge from Woody Austin and Ernie Els. Tiger bogeyed on the 14th and at that point, Tiger’s lead was down to 1 stroke. But that was as close as it gets.
Ernie Els, proved that he is getting back his form after his injury. Els played a 4 under par final round to put him in 3rd place after Austin Woody.
Phil Mickelson, another notable who did not do too well, played a final round of 69, bringing his toatl score to +6. He is tied in 32nd place.
