First Day at the US Open
June 15, 2007 | under PGA Tour |
The exciting US Open has just completed its first round with a field of the finest golfers around the world. The US open is held at the Oakmont Country Club, PA where it features the longest par 5, the longest par 3 and the 2nd longest par 4. It definitely will pose huge challenges to the competitors.
After the first round, the leader Nick Dougherty is at -2 after a round of 68. After the whole field has played, only two players are in the red. The other player one behind the leader, at one underpar is Angel Cabrera who played a very consistent round of golf.
There are another 2 players at even par for the day; Jose Olazabal and Bubba Watson. The rest of the field all played above par in the first round. It definitely demonstrated how tough the course is laid out.
Tiger Woods is three shots behind the leader at +1 for the tournament. Tiger did not start off well. He was playing according to what he intended to. You can see Tiger playing his irons and 3 woods off the tees, but failed to find the fairway in some holes. In courses like Oakmont, other then the fairway, no where else is “friendly” enough to land the ball.
Vijay Singh and Jeff Ogilvy is together with Tiger Woods at one over par.
Early leader David Toms who actually led for quite some time, ended his round at 2 over par. At one point, he was three under and struggled during his second nine holes.
Ernie Els is at +3 and Phil Mickelson is at +4.
Well, this is where it ended after the first round of golf at the US Open. The game is still very much open and scores can fluctuate drastically depending on how the golfer play that day.
More exciting days to come……
