Basic Golf Etiquette for Beginners
May 25, 2007 | under Golf Etiquette |
Golf etiquette is something that all golfers need to know. It is something that we golfers need to be aware of to make the game more fun and enjoyable. It is basic courtesy and respect that we display for our fellow golfer friends.
The rules of golf etiquette are there for several reasons. Many of the rules are related to the safety of golfers, courtesy to golfers, pace of play and others realting to the maintaining the quality of the golf course. In other words, golf etiquette is an essential part of the game to make it more enjoyable.
If you are new to the game, or just need to refresh some basic golf etiquette, below are a couple basic etiquettes that you may want to take note of :
When other golfers are taking their shots
It is important not to distract other golfers when their are addressing and taking their shots.
- Do not make any noise or chats during this time when you see someone is address his ball.Â
- Stay out of the golfers view. The best is to stand slightly behind the golfer, out of his view. This will allow him to concentrate at address.Â
- Remember to take note of where your shadow is casted. If it is on or around the golfers view, then make adjustment to the position you are standing.
- Help to take note of where your fellow golfers ball lands. Some players do not watch the ball land if it was a bad shot. Help them and this may also speed up play.
- Refrain from yelling “Good Shot” or “Nice Shot” out loud if there are other golfers on nearby tee box or green taking their shots.
On the Green
The green is a small place but there are many etiquettes to take note of. If you are new to golf, you may find this complex, but no worries, you will understand them as you play more.
- Always repair your ball marks on the green. People get excited about their approach to the green and many forget to repair ball marks. If you see any more other than yours, you may repair them as well.
- One important rule on the green is not to step on another player’s line to the golf hole. Walk around if required.
- The player whose ball is further away from the hole putts first. So, if there is another player whose ball is further back than yours, you should mark your ball. be careful as you to where you walk.
- When another player is about to putt, stay still until he takes his putt.
- The player nearest to the hole should then to the pin or flag. Ask your fellow golfers if they need the pin before removing it.
- If you are holding the pin, remove it from the hole after the player has made his stroke. This is to ensure that your fellow golfer does not get penalised for hitting the pin.
Golf is a fun game. Golf etiquette should not “stress” you, actually they are basic courtesy. It helps make the game more fun.
