Phil Mickelson won the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass a couple of hours ago.  He scored a 11-underpar total to win the championship by 2 strokes over second placed Sergio Garcia.

This is Mickelson’s first win under swing coach Butch Harmon, whom he hired a month ago.  Butch Harmon has coached great golfers such as Greg Norman and Tiger Woods.

It is also good to see Sergio Garcia getting back onto the leader board in second place.  He had played well over the week and scored 4 birdies on the final 5 holes to achieve a 6-under 66 round.

Rory Sabbatini, who commented after the first round which he led, that “Tiger is just as beatable…” did not do very well himself.  He ended up at 44th position with a final score of +1.  And guess what, Tiger did better than him although Tiger did not impress in the first 3 rounds.

Tiger “redeemed” himself in the final round with a score of 67, even par for the tournament.  During the first 3 rounds, Tiger struggled on the green and jsut could not find the cup.  Luck was definitely not with him.  He fared much better during the final round with an eagle on the par-5 16th.  “I knew I could shoot a few rounds in the 60s if I could just make a few putts,” Woods said Sunday. “I started reading them faster, putting them faster.”

Luck was definitely not with Sean O’Hair in the final round at Sawgrass today.  He was in second place on the leaderboard before he blew the final 2 holes big time.  He lost 5 strokes over the last 2 holes; a quadruple bogey on the 17th and bogey on the 18th.  Because of this he dropped from 2nd to 11th place.  Guess what is the difference in prize money ?  -  A whopping $747,000.

Great to see Sergio back in with the best. Would be nice to see him pick up a Major this season one of the players on the tour that is entertaining to watch as well as a steady player.

    Good article.
