Zach Johnson wins The Masters
April 9, 2007 | under PGA Tour, Tiger Woods |
American Zach Johnson emerge the champion at The Masters Tournament at Augusta National. Johnson played a beautiful 3 under-par 69 on the final day to clinched the title by 2 strokes. Three players tied in 2nd place; Retief Goosen Rory Sabbatini and Tiger Woods.
Many people consider Zach Johnson as an unexpected winner. This is his only second win in the PGA tour. His first was in 2004 at the BallSouth Classic. Johnson has finished within the top 10 in his past 11 major appearances. Well, he surprised everyone this week by capturing the Masters title beating a strong field of worldwide players.
Early leaders, Tim Clark, Brett Wetterich, Justin Rose could not hang on to the challenging course conditions. Stuart Appleby, the leader into the final round, went south pretty early and ended finishing tied 7th with a round of 3-overpar.
Tiger Woods, only one stroke coming into the final round, has his ups and downs on Sunday. he score a remarkable eagle on the par-5 13th hole. However, he found water on the par-5 15th hole. On the 11th hole, Tiger’s drove to the right side and ended up behind a pine tree. Taking his club, he punched the ball back into play before the club hit the tree trunk and break into two. He managed to save par on that hole.
Overall, I think it has been a very exciting masters - very “roller coaster” like with many unexpected twist and turns of events.
