Golf System36 Handicap System
February 28, 2007 | under Beginners, Golf Game, Golf Rules |
In my previous post, I mentioned about the Double Peoria Handicapping System which is a handicapping method used to determine a player’s handicap for the tournament. These handicapping systems are temporary only for the event.
An alternative method is the System36 Handicapping System. This is especially popular in corporate events, charity tournaments, etc. Similar to the Double Peoria system, the derived handicap is only applicable for the event / tournament.
In this system, all players start with a handicap of 36. Depending how the player fair in each hole of the tournament, designation points are deducted from this 36. The resulting total will be the player’s handicap for the event.
The points to be deducted from the original 36 are as follows :
- Par, Birdie, Eagle or Better = 2 points
- Bogey = 1 point
- Double bogey and above = 0 points
Let’s look at an example :
a player scores 5 pars, 1 birdies, 7 bogeys and 5 double bogey. Thus,(5*2)+(1*2)+(7*1)+(5*0)= 19.
This number 19 is then subtracted from the base of 36; 36 - 19 = 17.
With this system, the player’s handicap for the event is 17. This resulting handicap will then be used to compute the player’s score; such as stableford points, etc.
