Control your golf swing
January 31, 2007 | under Beginners, Golf Tips, Golf Swing |
Whenever I step up to the ball, be it at the driving range or the golf course, I get that feeling of wanting to hit the ball as hard as I can (maybe to drive it to Mars). I think that is a natural reaction when one aims to hit the golf ball down 300 yards.
Well, you can guess the result… the ball did not travel as far as it should have been given the amount of strength I have put in. But, I can tell you, it is a really good way to relieve stress. However, we are talking about playing better golf here……
One of the more common mistakes for a golfer is to swing the golf club too hard without much control. The keyword here is control. A hard swing gives you the power, control provides the accuracy which is key to the game of golf.
You need to relax when you a swinging. This will help you swing easily and have control of the swing. At address, try not to be too tense. Common areas to look out for are your grips, arms, shoulders and legs.
Loosen you grip if you are gripping too tight. Gripping to tight only tense up the fingers, the wrist and the arms. Try to relax with the grip. Use only enought strength to hold the club without it flying out of your hands. Take a club hold it in your hand. Do a few swings and determine the right amount of strength to grip the club. Remember this, and do this same grip during your next practise.
The other area are your arms. Relax you arms. When you hit hard with you arms tensed, injuries follows. I used to have this “golf elbow” thing. My elbow hurts after a game of golf. After learning to relax my grip and arms, my elbow is much better now. No more such problem.
… will continue in my next post….
